This article explains how to choose winning keywords for pay per click or Ad words campaigns. Should you go for general keywords with lots of searches or smarter keywords to draw buyers?
General keywords work well to generate leads with organic (free) search engine exposure. You aren’t paying for each site visitor, so the more the better. For example, the keyword “internet marketing” gets about 22 million searches per month. This is a very general keyword, but the idea with free searches is to draw even a small portion of these prospects to your site.

Now don’t get me wrong, I do believe that you should have a list, in fact I was list building before I even heard of internet marketing. I built a list of around 5500 in 1985 for my off line ironmongery business and instead of the internet I used snail mail, but that said I have to ask you to take a look at the facts.
